A resort spa in the Poconos is reporting its strongest winter booking season in several years, driven largely by weekend getaway packages centered on hot stone massage and thermal treatments marketed specifically as a cold-weather escape.

"Winter used to be our slow season," said the resort's spa director. "We restructured our packages a few years ago to lean into winter rather than fight it, and this year that bet paid off clearly in the numbers."

The packages bundle overnight lodging with extended spa treatments, appealing to couples and small groups from the Philadelphia and New York metro areas looking for a short regional trip during colder months when outdoor Poconos activities draw fewer visitors. The spa added two treatment rooms last year specifically to handle overflow demand for its most popular hot stone package.

Staffing the surge has been the primary challenge, with the resort recruiting seasonal massage therapists from as far as the Lehigh Valley to cover weekend demand. The resort's general manager says winter spa revenue now approaches summer levels, a shift that has changed how the property budgets staffing across the full year.
