Ombré Nails Make a Comeback at Reading Salons This Season

After several years dominated by minimalist, single-tone nail looks, salons across Reading say clients are once again requesting ombré and gradient color techniques, a trend technicians say requires noticeably more time per appointment than the simple styles it's replacing.
"We went through a long stretch where everyone wanted one clean color and nothing else," said a technician at a Penn Street salon. "Now people are bringing in reference photos with three-color gradients and asking if we can match it exactly."
The technique requires blending polish colors directly on the nail using a sponge or brush technique, a skill that varies significantly between technicians and has become a point of differentiation salons now advertise explicitly. Several shops report booking longer appointment slots specifically for gradient requests to avoid falling behind on their daily schedule.
Product suppliers serving the region say they've seen a corresponding increase in sales of blending sponges and gradient-specific polish sets, previously a niche product category. Salon owners say they expect the trend to hold through the season based on early-year booking patterns.
